Everyone’s car has an issue sometimes. It can be something that’s inconvenient but not a huge problem. Or it could be a larger issue that means you can’t run your vehicle if you don’t get it fixed. These problems can often be solved in almost no time, but that doesn’t make the solutions cheap. There are some things you can fix at home, but there are many you will need to leave to a professional mechanic. This can end up costing you a lot of money, but there is still a way you can save. It’s possible to diagnose the problem yourself, and possibly fix the issue too. But if you can’t repair it, you can, at least, tell the mechanic what the issue is.
Heating and Cooling
There are several ways your car needs to be heated or cooled. The internal parts all need to be kept to cool to stop everything overheating. And the interior of your vehicle requires both heating and cooling to keep the driver and passengers comfortable. One of the problems you can find with your cooling system is that a leak has appeared. To identify a leak, you have to check your car over regularly. It could come from the radiator, engine block core pumps or water pump. Your interior air conditioning can malfunction too. Your air con needs to be checked when you can’t feel it as strongly or as cold as you expect it to be.
Weird Sounds
Your car can produce all kinds of odd sounds when there’s something wrong with it. Trying to find the source of the noise will help you when you take it to get repaired. It might even be something you can fix yourself. Here are a couple of suggestions for what could be happening:
- Squealing that stops when you turn off the engine – your belt needs to be replaced or adjusted
- Ticking with an idle engine – check your oil levels and valve adjustment
- Whistling – under the hood could indicate vacuum leaks from hoses
- Odd sounds from your tires – check their balance, inflation, and wear
Ignition Problems
Problems starting a vehicle are certainly not uncommon. If you’re finding it hard to get yours started, there could be a number of things wrong. For example, you might need to clean your battery posts and cable connectors on your battery. Your battery could also be completely dead and perhaps require replacing. There could be an issue with fuel getting to your engine. While you can fix some of these issues yourself, you will need professional help for others.
Strange Smells
Weird odors in your car are usually not a good sign. If you’re sure the smell isn’t coming from outside or something you’ve left on the seat, you need to find out what it is. If you can smell burning under the hood, it could be a hose touching the engine and starting to melt. A burning smell coming from elsewhere could be a break pad on your tires or an overheated clutch. Oil or exhaust fumes could mean a broken exhaust pipe.
